From Russia - with collective amnesia

What a farrago is being generated over the traditionally Russian, Russian-speaking, Russian culture and Russian occupancy of the Crimean Peninsula, host to the Russian Black Sea fleet for a very long time now.
 
Britain of course has form there.  Remember Florence Nightingale.  But our Butch foreign minister is appalled by Moscow's desire to maintain a status quo not unlike Britain's adherence to The Falkland Islands and Gibraltar.  Perhaps Mr Hague is not old enough to remember "British Ports" such as Aden, Singapore, Hong Kong, Cyprus, Trincomalee, Simonstown etcetera, etc.  The EU also objects, forgetting its Colonial past, and although nobody in America can spell Guantanamo they still want to hang onto it.

What an absurd attempted defence for a 21 st century Russian military invasion .
However , in this instance Karma has come around very quickly .
Russia cannot afford to support this largely worthless strip of land now that oil has sunk to $50 and lower . And it certainly cannot support the Donetsk / Lugansk eastern region of Ukraine .
Both areas are falling to pieces and need billions poured into the infrastructure .

As with all life , ---- you learn and move on to a new chapter and hopefully find raised standards and improved methods of conduct .
You certainly do not bathe continually in pity and guilt just because some mistakes may have been made .
Gad to see you are not one of those ghastly bores who cannot be proud of what we achieved when the Victorians especially guaranteed a future for this illustrious isle --- which it still presently enjoys .
