Six things you've never done
Marcus Brigstocke currently has a programme on BBC Radio 4 where he invites guests to try things they've never done.
Share your list with us of six of the things you've never experienced. I'll start the ball rolling:-
- I've never eaten an oyster
- I've never bought a copy of 'The Sun'
- I've never been to Scotland (like the Romans, I stopped at Hadrian's Wall)
- I've never smoked a cigarette
- I've never watched an episode of 'Coronation Street'
- I've never voted Tory

Re: Six things you've never done
Sounds like a Liar's Charter, but hand-on-heart .........
1. I've never bought a copy of "The Sun"
1a nor subscribed to Sky television
2. I've never watched East Enders
2a: or Come Dancing, or X-factor nor its derivatives, nor Big Brother
3. I've never stayed in a 5-Star hotel
4. I've never voted Tory, not even when they sent a car round (snigger).
5. That's more than six. Stop boasting.

Re: Six things you've never done
Six “never-dones”:
- I’ve never strapped a stick (or two sticks) to the bottom of my feet and jumped off the side of a snowy mountain.
- I’ve never strapped an air tank to my back and jumped into shark-populated water.
- I’ve never strapped a piece of cloth to my back and jumped out of a perfectly good airplane in flight.
- I’ve never strapped a kite to my back and jumped off a cliff.
- I’ve never strapped a rubber band to my ankles and jumped off a bridge.
- I’ve never received a reply from Chaka Khan to any phone call, email, snail mail, or tweet.
Five of these six “never-dones” I hope to “never-do.”

Making ME blush - hasn't happened since the motorbike rally in Pately Bridge in 1978!! A couple in the field thort their tent was on top of them, and some wag lifted it up when they got "started" The Antics when we switched the headlights on is never to be forgotten!!
(and sadly it was not me enjoying myself!)

Moonbeam,
I smoked one third of a cigarette forty some odd years ago. You ain't missed nuthin' but coughing.
For your first coast visit, treat yourself to any Pacific Northwest coast or Monterrey Peninsula. Flat out gorgeous. Maybe number one is Asilomar, on the Monterrey Peninsula, white sand, green stuff growing in outcrops, angry, violent ocean right there, wow!

Hi Rock. My mother is a lifelong smoker. That really turned me off to ever wanting to get into it myself. I go to her house and it's like a wall of grossness that sticks on my clothes after I leave.
I will keep in mind your coastal recommendations. It's on my 'someday' list. I do love the water, and though I think I'd be intimidated by the depth, I think I might also enjoy snorkeling or scuba diving.

I've never made a 'bucket list'
I've never been to America
I've never felt comfortable in high heels
I've never swum the Channel
I've never had a venereal disease
I've never successfully grown tomatoes
I wish I could say I've never laid my head down without a hand to hold and I've never made my bed out in the cold, but that wouldn't be true (the late great John Martyn)

The Christmas TV schedules reminded me that I've never watched The Sound of Music. Never. Not even once, not even by accident. Does that make me a bad person?

Re: Six things you've never done
Good thread! I hadn't spotted this one until just now. My 6 (or the first 6 that came to mind):
1) Jumped out of an aircraft (though I have worn a parachute in a glider!)
2) Been to Canada (though I would love to)
3) Been to Japan (ditto)
4) Tried Kopi Luak coffee (ditto again!)
5) Been drunk
6) Taken recreational drugs

Re: Six things you've never done
Ah yes, the glider flight, a quick digression if I may...
A couple of years ago I was wondering what to get Mrs Rackham for her birthday, I wanted to get her something unusual. On the morning of her birthday I suggested a drive out into the country, she thought we were going to some country pub for lunch...
...I pulled into the gliding club car park and parked the car. She looked at me and asked 'What are you doing?' Hold on I'll be back in a minute I said. I nipped off and spoke to some chap who was expecting us. I waived to the car and beckoned Mrs Rackham to join us, with some trepidation she did. I introduced her to the chap I spoke to who immediately started to strap her into a parachute. She looked terrified, I calmed her and explained what was going on, she still looked terrified! For a moment I thought she was going to refuse to go up, but all was well, up she went. After half an hour she landed and came running towards me. She was absolutely thrilled, I've never seen her so alive.
Apologies, back to thread.

It shows in many other ways too, Red!
Interesting however, to speculate whether I would have made it thus far without an NHS.

Re: Six things you've never done
Slight misunderstanding to be avoided there, please, due to my tendency to milk sympathy for all it's worth! Impairments to my health are the automatic consequences of age, but when you have to deal with that situation it is surprising how many strategies can be invoked to maintain a semblance of normality. Or perhaps I'm only fooling myself. It does come as an unarguable surprise when someone offers me a seat, because I do not feel OLD, it's just that there are so many more youngsters around than there used to be, and it can't be necessary to move so quickly.

What did you do before you retiered? bit of an assumption I suppose but I'm guessing you're retired. At 53 yo myself I suppose I have all the impairments of old age to look forward to, hey ho. I have to say you are an engaging writer, very eloquent. Your word vocabulary makes reading your posts quite enjoyable. Sadly, as you will no doubt discover I'm no wordsmith. Something to do with a misspent youth I'm told.

An interesting selection, Philosophic of Canada.
I'm surprised that contemporary Scots appear quite willing to be reminded of their former poverty which made a National Dish of the bits of a sheep which their Lairds disdained to eat, with porrage added.
I presume the success of a threesome depends upon the precise combination of participants.
To jump out of a functioning aircraft sounds like dementia.
Dolphins are brighter than we are. Best avoided by anyone with less than total self-confidence.
A cat may look at a Queen. Mainly a question of geographical coincidence.
"Africa" contains so much, it's unlikely that any individual has ever seen all of it.
