Just another day in Kansas, from blizzards to wind driven rangeland fires~~~
GOODLAND, Kan. (WIBW) -- Heavy snowfall is west Kansas has forced authorities to shut down the last leg of I-70 before reaching the Colorado border. KDOT says the Interstate from Goodland to the state line was closed at 1:30 p.m.
While its still in the 70s in northeast Kansas, a powerful storm system is plowing into the state from the west. A strong cold front is pushing across Kansas, shifting winds to the north and causing temperatures to tumble.
The front dragged blizzard conditions into northwest Kansas, bringing wind gusts over 50 mph with it.
The heaviest snowfall will target an area just north and west of Goodland where 3-6 inches could fall by Wednesday evening.

KIOWA, Kan. — Fire crews were working to contain a wildfire burning across at least 75 square miles in rural Oklahoma and Kansas today, while strong wind and dry conditions also increased fire threats in neighboring states, authorities said.
The National Weather Service said the fire started Tuesday night near the Kansas border in Woods County, Oklahoma. Wind gusts of up to 30 mph helped spread the blaze into Barber and Comanche counties in western Kansas.
No injuries have been reported in either state, according to local officials. About a dozen homes have been evacuated in Comanche County, though none of the houses has been damaged, county emergency management coordinator John Lehman said.
About 65 firetrucks and hundreds of firefighters were helping to gradually contain the blaze, which occasionally whipped into canyons, Lehman said. Oil field crews have hauled water to the scene in tractor-trailers to help.
Parts of New Mexico and northwest Texas also were at extreme risk for wildfires today because of warm, windy, dry conditions, according to the weather service’s Storm Prediction Center in Norman, Oklahoma. The area covers more than 120,000 square miles and includes the cities of Lubbock, Texas; Oklahoma City; and Wichita and Topeka in Kansas.
The Oklahoma Forestry Services warned local fire departments that conditions would worsen through the afternoon and evening, when winds were expected to shift and spread existing fires in new directions.

The only thing we're lacking is a Tornado or the ever increasing earthquake

The Wichita TV station just announced a total evacuation for the town of Medicine Lodge...7:pm this evening. High winds and dry grasses are feeding the fire. But the good news is --- it's almost Sun Down and the high winds tend to die down with the sun - in Kansas.

I'm fuming and wanting to drive to Topeka, KS and kick our governor ass for him: Now he's declared a state emergency --- Couldn't be troubled with issuing an order for our National Guard to get out there and aide in that fire --- that same fire that had started in Oklahoma on Tuesday and blew with those high prevailing winds right into our state and then just kept right on going.
Hundreds of live stock burned alive trying to escape those raging fires to be trapped along the barbed wire fencings that marked their limitations for pasture range. Momma cows with new born calves - bulls - horses --- bales of hay - out buildings - and Medicine Lodge, Ks evacuated their hospital - nursing home --- hell the entire town was told to vacate ASAP in the dark last night!!!
This Gov. Brownbeck needs to be tarred & feathered and ran out of our state!!!
