Welcome and introductions
First topic message reminder :
Around the autumn of 2007 I came across the MSN message boards and found one entitled "UK Politics" which I joined and enjoyed for over three and a half years, then around April 2011 MSN decided in their wisdom to close down that particular message board.
Over time the MSN message board posters had become like friends, and though I had never met any of them, they became as familiar as the regulars I have a pint with in the local village pub, one or two were fairly nasty and quite vile, most were very pleasant people.
Fortunately, one of the redundant MSN bloggers (Ivan) decided to start his own political blogging site, and many of the old MSN posters followed him to his newly created site, and after a competition to find a name, it was agreed to call it "Cutting Edge".
I have to point out that Ivan ran things in a very fair and democratic way, the members decided the rules, they chose the name and logo, several of us were appointed as moderators and common sense prevailed.
Unfortunately the host of our board was "ProBoards" whom I would definately NOT recommend to anyone, they pulled the plug and closed Cutting Edge down saying that we had broken the rules.
To this day we still do not know what rule(s) were broken, and by whom, we wrote very polite emails to ProBoards asking for an explanation, but we got no answer other than "you broke the rules".
And so here we are WELCOME

Actually... I don't have an accent... but you all do.
LOL! That's what I tell all the Americans when they comment on mine ... even though I live in the US. They're the ones "talking funny."

Re: Welcome and introductions
I had a couple of Brits working with me. One has moved back to Texas - which is good for him because he was living in my state and his family wasn't. The other works nights so I really don't speak with him other than to say hello. However, there are a couple I deal with over the phone - one British and one South African - that I enjoy. Actually, there may be more than one from South Africa now that I think of it, but so much of my work is done via IM, I don't get to hear them..
Re: Welcome and introductions
Hi All,
and good to be back with you again. I was hoping Ivan would start up another forum after the Pro boards fiasco...so thank you very much! I am sure we will get a lot more people joing us in the next few month, but it's good to see many familiar faces here from Pro boards and the MSN forums.
I am going to send an invite to one of my very best friends to join, even though he is an ardent leftie. We disagree on everything, but he is a good debator so i think he could add value here
Much love from the Channel Islands

Greetings. I'm finding this format a little difficult. Is the private messaging disabled?

Re: Welcome and introductions
I've now discovered that this forum was pre-set so that private messaging cannot be done by members who have only posted a very few messages. Clearly this was arranged to make it more difficult for spammers who, with no intention of participating in discussions, might join the forum, send messages to all members, and then disappear. I intend to leave things that way.Is the private messaging disabled?

Hi
I am a regular poster (for my sins?) on another debate forum, UKDebate, was recommended this forum and here I is.
Interested in more less everything...I have views...especially about the big questions...the real whoppers...like whats it all about...really?....love all that.
But I am probably more infamous on the other forum for my political and religious opinions...which I assure you are suitably bombastic and offensive to a goodly proportion of people
(Oo lots of smilies, we don't have those.)
But I mean well.
Anyways...
I look forward to reading contributions and er contributing.
Peace!

Some of the changes have been seamless, but not without incident along the way, Ben. Welcome indeed.

Re: Welcome and introductions
Thanks OW, and i may add good to see you here; I wish i was I.T. literate enough to have saved all the threads that i was deaply involved with on MSN such as "Bring back the act of Treason" etc, because there were comments made on there by Mandelson and Dr Appleton etc that are coming to fruition or that have caused controversy with the EU. You mension MSN fell under the control of trolls and nuns, i think more like a steamroller

Re: Welcome and introductions
When I first posted on here I tried to write something under 'Welcome and Introductions' and wasn't even allowed to access it. Since then I rather gather it is composed of people who already know one another from somewhere else. I find it a bit unwelcoming, really. Apologies for breathing!

Re: Welcome and introductions
Penderyn, my sincere apologies.
On the entire welcome board only the staff can start threads, and (for rather obvious reasons) only the staff can write on the posting rules thread. Of course we wanted members to be able to write on the welcome and suggestions threads, but the required settings were rather complicated and I didn't get them right first time.
Yes, some of us knew each other previously. Some of us were at MSN before those discussion boards were closed, and some of the members here know each other from UK Debate. There are, however, quite a few members who haven't been on either of those forums and came here on their own or by personal invitation. And what does it matter as we're all in this together? Now where have I heard that before?

Re: Welcome and introductions
Penderyn, I really don't know hardly any of the posters here. I've seen a lot of the names around, here and there, but that's about it.
You do have to be logged in to view this thread, and only admins can start a new topic on this board. Perhaps one of those is what happened to you?
I'm sure Ivan has a better answer.

Re: Welcome and introductions
Devil? LOL.
You could be right, moonbeam, but there was certainly a glitch in the early days, and it was all my fault.
How's your forum doing these days? Keeping you busy or ticking over nicely? I appreciate how you take the time to visit us, and if you ever want a job here, please let me know!!

Re: Welcome and introductions
My board always keeps me busy. Sometimes busier than others, of course. Just like here, I'm sure. I wouldn't worry about past mistakes, btw. There's always a learning curve. I'm sure no one expected you to have all the answers then, and probably don't now, either. We all just do the best we can.
I'd post here more often but I'm not known for following current events, politics, etc. I look smarter by keeping my mouth shut! LOL.

Re: Welcome and introductions
moonbeam. Would you have time to be a Moderator on some of our non-political boards? I'm planning a substantial reorganisation and a Deputy Administrator.
Re: Welcome and introductions
I can always find time, if you really think I can be of benefit. I am on a computer 12 hrs a day for work as is. I often have down time.

Hi everyone....I'm MacBeth and heard of here thanks to Moonbeam.....I hope everybody is well and I look forward to popping along and posting a comment or two if that's ok ?

Hello and welcome Macbeth (or should we call you 'the Scottish play'?). I hope you'll find the forum of interest to you, and should Shakespeare be to your liking, we have just the thread on our 'History Channel'....I spent hours writing the opening posting!
Re: Welcome and introductions

I'll go take a look at the HISTORY Channel....oh....and thanks for the Welcome !!

Macbeth. You're not brownboots1, are you? No, you can't be him, he didn't laugh (he was just a laughing stock).
You have to post ten messages here before you send PMs (called MPs, because this is a French site - all of the buttons were in French when we arrived!). It's to stop spammers from nipping in and filling everyone's inbox with junk and then disappearing again.
