[b]Today 30/11/2011 I took a disabled friend to Manchester airport.
She is 77 year old and can hardly walk.
It was arranged in advance that there would be someone there to help her.
Nothing could be further from the truth.
She pressed the help buzzer and was told, make your own way to the help office.
Then told make your own way to check in.(They gave her a wheel chair)
We took her.She asked check in girl, what do I do next?
I don't know she said. What if my wife and me had not gone in with her?
After a load of hassel,we left for home.(hope friend got to Cyprus)
Getting back to car a plumped up jobsworth with a bright jacket saying on the back car park marchell said I was about to call the police.
You left your car unattended, did you not see the notice?
No we did not.If people are expected to gaurd there own car, what is the point of his job.
Manchester air port.GIVE IT A MISS.

on the opposite side of the coin, it was blood tests today - chemo tomorrow

The Staff and the Nurses in the Primary Care Centre could not have been nicer, could not have been more diligent if they tried!

Newcastle Airport is coming in for a lot of stick, particularly from the taxis. If they aint happy, old Astra is keeping away from the place!

So you went to enemy territory then whitbyforklift ? ( Lancashire )

Today I rang North Yorkshire Police, I knew exactly who I wanted to speak to and at which main police station, but of course the centralized call centre is 50 miles away at a place called Newby Wiske ( sounds like the latest egg whisking gadget available from all good stores ).

I eventualy got through to a human who gave me the collar number of the officer I was attempting to contact.

I was then put back into the system, the way it is supposed to work is a voice recognision recognises the collar number which you say out loud down the phone - and just like most modern technology, it dident work.

When I got back to the human being, she did a quick test and then declared "well its working" - its at this point that you realy want to say "so are you saying I am a f*****g liar then", but of course you dont.

Progress - does it realy mean that you can order a pizza delivery quicker than you can order an ambulance or the police. ?

Have you seen the size of the area that the Fire and Rescue Service Control Centre is expected to cover here in Newcastle/Sunderland/Durham/Berwick and down your way. Apparently the Ambulace are going to pull this trick as well

In the 70s we had an Ambulance Controller with a bit of a speech impediment and a wonderfull Norfolk accent, which together in Central Scotland could go haywire over the crackly radios - he was a wonderful person! I am NOT abusing him! And will not allow any other to so abuse him!!! Evil or Very Mad
Near Pitlochry is a hamlet - no more than that, (it used to be the train divergence location to go to Aberfeldy) called Kindallachan
It used to come over (to us on the road) as Kill-ma-gramaphone. Because we knew well what the import of his urgent message was, no time was lost in attending any incident!

I fear this will happen to the detriment of patients, with all the different dialects being mixed up, when custom and use and familiarity with colleagues is thrown out the window!

Hello V Mate. Accents are a wierd thing, When I speak English I am as cockney as can be, yet when I speak Italian I speak it with a Northern Italian Posh accent.

We have to stop thinking of Banks in terms of Captain Mainwaring. They have absolutely no motivation whatever to provide any kind of a service, except as a fictional "product" to avoid accusations of simple theft .
The Directors of a Bank pay themselves squillions a year to "create wealth" even though their activities produce neither Goods nor tangible result apart from sloshing other people's money around the system, as in a water-treatment plant.
Everyone else is a Sales-person, paid by results. The wages of a Bank employee before commission are not attractive.

The really surprising thing is how tolerant Investors are of dwindling dividend yields, and falling share-values, alongside rocketing Directors' remuneration-packages. Who is fooling whom?

Under this heading must surely fit the latest revelations about elderly and handicapped patients being slung out of Hospitals in the middle of the night.

What's THAT all about?

It's about lack of investment in the NHS. Lack of beds. On the other hand it could be that the sick who turn up at death's door, needing observation overnight, or even intensive care, should be sent home until a more convenient time Sad

Hello Landy. When I was at end of my training for the London Ambulance training school, I had to do a week of nights at the Smithfield Ambulance Station, which was just outside St Barts Hospital.

On the first night we had a call to a collapse outside a pub near the Bank (of England). When we turned up we found this Geezer of about 35 years old, rolling on the floor seemingly in agony. I then set about treating him as a genuine casualty, dealt with him and took him to St Barts Casualty. Whilst I was talking to the A&E Sister about him, the git just got off the bed and legged it out of the door, I was just about to run after him, when the sister told me he was a regular, apparently he used to stop at the same pub every night on his way to Smithfield meat market, and if he spent all his money on booze, he would call an ambulance to get a lift to work which was right beside the Hospital. On the third night we had another call to the same pub, at around the same time, when we got there I told the bastard that I was going to take him to the London Hospital, which is in the opposite direction, he then informed me that I have to take him to the nearest Casualty Receiving Hospital, I told him that as I was comparatively new to the area, and though the London was the nearest so that’s where I am taking him, he refused to go to the London, so with a little persuasion I made him sign The LA4 which was the emergency call sheet saying he has refused assistance. As I was leaving, I pointed out to him that if I got called out to him again, he would find a very good reason for not coming with us.

A couple of weeks later My Mate and I where told to do another set of nights at Smithfield, and lo and behold we got a call to the same pub at around the same time for a collapse. We did our duty and went to collect him, my mate was driving and I was attending that night, I asked my Mate to stop by the Headquarters a General store in Holborn which he did. I removed the patient from the back of the Ambulance assisted him down a small Alley, and set about (sort of) telling him what a naughty boy he was and that he was taking the only Ambulance from the area out of service and that each call cost loads of Money. I must have been very persuasive with my argument, as he never too my Knowledge called another Ambulance.

What a good ambulance man I was, I cured this man of his nightly collapses and saved the Ambulance service a fortune in hoax calls, and saved a bed in St Barts Casualty from having to be remade several times a week. And do you know what Landy, I never received a thanks from anyone, especially the patient who on a certain night may have genuinely needed an Ambulance, did the right thing and walked to wherever. He must have gone somewhere as later in the night coming back from another shout, we had a look to see if he was OK, and there was a space where we thought he may have been.

Not even Jesus Christ could heal people like I could.

Greatest. The answer to your question. Depends on the circumstances. If my child were in need, physically or materially, I would do what I could to help. If my child had had an accident and was on a life support machine with no hope of a life without the machine. Probably no. Love works in various ways.
This is reality, not mythology.

Unhelpful people Empty Proud to be British

Post by oftenwrong Fri Jun 23, 2017 12:01 am

Proud?  Of course, how could it be doubted?  "To have been born British is to have won First Prize in the race of life."  Rule Brittania!
But if there can be said to exist a "National Character", it has been put under scrutiny by current events. A referendum last year, ostensibly about economics, resulted in a clear decision not to encourage Johnny Foreigner to have any influence on our affairs in any shape or form, nor even be here.  A terrible fire in London has had a reduced impact on the public conscience due to the preponderance of victims not being either Anglo-Saxon nor from society's upper stratum.   There was an undercurrent of opinion that many of them shouldn't have been here anyway.  "Local Residents" actively want them to be relocated somewhere else.

recent events show up the 'British character' in a very unflattering light - I don't remember things being like this when I was younger but maybe I've just been issued with the older generation rose tinted specs

Unhelpful people Empty Nuisance caller jailed after phoning 999 more than 1,800 times

I think I could almost be persuaded to support restoration of the death penalty for people who persistently waste the time of Emergency Services.
