UK government to monitor internet, phone and text traffic
Ministers are to introduce a new law allowing police and security services to extend their monitoring of the public's email and social media communications, the Home Office has confirmed.
It is expected that the new system will allow security officials to scrutinise who is talking to whom and exactly when the conversations are taking place, but not the content of messages.Internet companies will be instructed to install hardware enabling GCHQ - the Government's electronic 'listening' agency - to examine 'on demand' any phone call made, text message and email sent, and website accessed in 'real time'.
Civil liberties campaigners expressed fears that this 'unprecedented' move will intrude on the lives of British citizens, with the measures being compared to strict controls currently exercised in China and Iran.

This has been coming for some time , now it is upon us , however GCHQ have the tools already to do all the above , and have been doing it in the UK for years. ."The Coalition agreement explicitly promised to 'end unnecessary data retention' and restore our civil liberties. At the very least we need less secret briefing and more public consultation if this promise is to be abandoned"............
They have proven themselves liars everywhere else, why should this be any different?
RSA and other encryption will mean it is hard for anyone who has anything they want hidden to be uncovered, the only real use would be for huge sweeps of datamining in a giant datawarehouse to pick up trends in peoples conversation. In other words its little more than a vast fishing expedition.
Trusting the corrupt political and police class is an absolute no no. They are far more likely to turn this into attacking fringe politics than catching any serious criminals.

Firms like Google and Facebook provide a FREE service which is paid for by advertisers. The medium of the internet allows data to be collected that reveal a User's particular interests. When you search on "Angling" that is noted, and you will thereafter receive extra advertising from people who sell fishing rods and the like. Supermarket loyalty-cards perform a similar service. Eventually they know more about you than you knew about yourself, and Governments are bound to be interested. There will probably never again be any need for a Census of Great Britain.
The latest trend in Television Receivers is "SMART TV" that allows you to surf the net from your Telly, not just your pooter. Sky, BT and all the others will record what you watch and how often you watch it.
Spooked? The tip of the iceberg is all that you can see.

Then there is internet connection to your fridge, your freezer, and your oven, this all adds up to total knowledge of the chosen individual. (should they be wired up to all mod cons.
You can now check your home alarm by i pad or tablet or other such communication device, so "they" can watch you unpacking your shopping, or getting yer dressings changed (see visual thread)

As they're not allowed to open my letters delivered by post without a police warrant, why the hell should they be allowed to monitor my emails?!

I think we have all become more visible during the last 10 years or so - glad to see it goes both ways
