When do you think there will be a leadership challenge in the Lib Dems?
First topic message reminder :
The Lib-Dems will not let Nick Clegg lead them into the next general election because Clegg will definitely be a liability.
The Lib-Dems won't have their leadership challenge too near the general election because this will be seen as a vote grabber.
The Lib-Dems must have their leadership challenge ages before the next general election to be seen as a genuine change of leadership.
So, when do you think their leadership challenge will be ?

Oh what great news! I am cheered by this turn in the polls. At last the quickening has begun and a light shines at the end of the tunnel in this grotesque foray into the political Twilight Zone.
I can almost hear the theme tune playing...soon it will stop!

Ivan wrote:Lib Dems won't have much of a future if tonight's opinion polls are any guide:-
YouGov: LAB 42%, CONS 35%, LIB DEMS 9%, OTHERS 14%
Populus: LAB 38%, CONS 34%, LIB DEMS 11%, OTHERS 17%
ComRes: LAB 43%, CONS 33%, LIB DEMS 11%, OTHERS 13%
Average: LAB 41%, CONS 34%, LIB DEMS 10%, OTHERS 15%
Feeding those averages into the UK Polling Report swingometer, and using the new gerrymandered boundaries designed to help the Tories, the prediction for a general election is:-
LAB 332, CONS 233, LIB DEMS 12, OTHERS 23. Overall LAB majority of 64.
Ivan, In your honest view, just how accurate are polls in the general sense ?

May I say that Ivan is of course reflecting de facto figures and that these polls have always been a good barometer of opinion and ALWAYS affects the Tory view of their leaders.
A toxic leader will be replaced - as surely as the sun suddenly shining on a miserable, cold, wet day...

Excuse me interjecting. Ouch that's painful:lol:
There is, in aviation, a saying - 'the point of no return'. I wonder where that comes, or if it has come for the Tories. How much more will the British Public take. Or do the Tories have a reserve 'fuel tanker' in the wings. Let's hope not.

Good point:
I am confident that they are running on empty, and that the wheels have come off their old banger.
I think it looks like an old Reliant Robin...driven by Del boy? Oh yes, that would explain everything!
This video shows Cameron, the short man, with Clegg his sidekick:

Re: What future will the Lib Dems have by 2015?
A month ago, Chris Ward, a former Guildford councillor, resigned from the Liberal Democrats. His first inclination was to stand as an independent in future elections. However, I’m pleased to report that he has just joined the Labour Party, saying that “Ed Miliband’s leadership has taken the country’s main opposition party leaps and bounds in the past year”, and that “the Labour Party clearly has changed to be a party of the people.”
Chris's decision is indicative of what's happened with many Liberal Democrat supporters. The result of the general election in 2010 was CON 36%, LAB 29%, LIB DEMS 23%. Tonight's YouGov poll records CON 33%, LAB 42%, LIB DEMS 8%. This means that there's been a 14% swing from the Liberal Democrats to Labour in less than two years.

you know Ivan, to read the Tory press you would believe that its the Labour party that was in some sort of trouble....what utter rubbish as we both rightly know. the fact is the Lib/Dem are finish two years ago after walking away from all that they believed in. as for our friends in the Tory party...they are just dreaming that somehow they can turn all this around. but the fact is they have sold out for power at the costs of there middle class voters. who today are now seeing its them who are paying for the Tory parties true friends in the City of London. what more the last ten day shows us all that they have totally lost the plot.

Re: What future will the Lib Dems have by 2015?
It is my belief that we have witnessed a tipping point; a Shakespearian sea change of opinion when voters will spill out like rampaging elephants through picket fences.
Bradford West was, in some senses, a chimeric one-off; a local phenomenon that manifested one more electoral anomaly that Bradford has been turning up in a long tradition of extraordinary voting results. Gorgeous (not my opinion!) George Galloway was wrong to say it was a unique electoral swing - other swings have been even greater. Get your facts right George, no need to over-egg the event!
Bradford is an exception.
The rest of the country is generally not, and when the local elections come in May that is when we will see the general voting dynamic in its full magnitude.
I predict an almighty bloodbath of punishment being exacted by a voting public hopping mad about corruption, insulted by ineptitude and thoroughly pissed off by financial hardship. The Tories and Lib-Dems may well be the main casualties. Hubris will be punished.
I am an EX Lib-Dem; they will never get my vote again...
It will be a sea change, but only part of the catharsis that the people of this country need and deserve, urgently.

I'm actually surprised that the Lib Dems aren't lower in the polls. How are they still polling at 8%+?
Who still believes in them?

For years we have arranged our affairs in the belief that our mail is intercepted, our telephone calls recorded, and that e-mail will be stored forever.
That way I have nothing to fear from nosy busy-bodies with nothing else to do. Our garbage contains only the shredded version of Utility Bills and suchlike.

At least they're honest about it. Don't remember the Russians or Iranians warning us.
Seriously. I really have no objection to 'authorised' snooping. By that I mean a 'warrant' granted on evidence produced before a justice of the peace. If it leads to a conviction of a criminal or the prevention of terrorism, good. Unfortunately some unauthorised 'snooping' has led to cases being dismissed.
Hold on. Does that mean mail as well? Must stop those imports from Holland.

Re: What future will the Lib Dems have by 2015?
I find it quite astonishing that there are allready discussions on who might be the next Tory leader after Cameron, and no I am not talking about here on Cutting Edge, I am refering to Conservative Home, the most influentual Tory blogging site.
And then I saw Iain Martins column in The Daily Telegraph where he attacks the Conservatives for been too "wet" and not Conservative, or radical enough, I suppose he means not right wing enough.
Is it just me or is there a kind of open rebellion going on in Conservative ranks, but the leadership is pretending it isent happening, even the right wing press are screaming for a tougher line on spending, public services, the NHS and on Europe.
Is it all going to blow up soon ?

Nice quote from a columnist in today's Independent ....
The Government wants to know who is communicating with whom, but not what they are actually saying. If you believe that, I have a bridge for sale which might interest you.

Ha ha!
Yes, rebellion is in the air and its called 'HELP!'
We have never needed such urgent help before...deliverance from this Cameron fiasco is well needed; desired; yearned for.
Even a new Tory leader would help rather than suffer this present shower.

"a new Tory leader would help ...."
In the Theatre and movie-making, the really popular (within the trade) actors are those who present themselves as a clean sheet of paper upon which the Director can create a character.
That's David Cameron, or David Chameleon as he is sometimes known. His job is to present an acceptable Public Face on the somewhat murky doings of an unreconstructed Tory Party whose only common purpose is survival. He is of course expendable, and will be cast aside like an old sock when he ceases to deflect criticism or opprobrium. His continued presence or replacement will only affect media and public perceptions, not The Party, which will continue as always - but with a new "Face".
The more things change, the more they are the same.

Just keep the red flag flying! It's prettier that a faded, ragged old Tory ensign...which is beginning to look like a pirate skull and crossbones jobby!
I kind of feel sorry for Clegg - can't be easy being an inept power grabber. That may be a bit harsh!

My Grandfather taught me "Keep the Red Flag Flying High" while I was a child sitting on his knee after he had a few pints at the British Legion, have been listening to the TV news about Nick Clegg launching his local Election bid he is hoping (and praying and fingers crossed) he does better this year than last, After letting the Tories privatize there NHS and the Welfare Bill and the Housing benefit Bill does he really think that people will welcome his councillors with open arms think he has been eating magic mushrooms.

If your expecting the Tories to care you will wait a long time, they do not know what it to have to worry about where the money is coming from to pay the bills the only time some people will see them is when there looking for your vote and I hope the people of the UK do not forget or forgive the Tories this time, but do think between the budget and the sleaze has put the UK on its guard for more Tory lies.

After 18 long years of Tory rule, 1979- 1997, I did not think for one moment that the Tory's would have got any votes at the last general election but they did.
