Tories show no respect for war heroes who stood up to Germany
Florence Green, the last living veteran of World War I, died last Saturday at the age of 110. Florence, who was Britain's sixth oldest person, was 17 when she joined the newly-formed WRAF in September 1918 in the final months of the conflict.
You would think the Government would have prepared a state funeral for her, as a tribute for all the men and women who spilt their blood in the name of the United Kingdom. But no such tribute is forthcoming. The Tory government, hopelessly out of touch with our nation's respect for its war heroes, has prepared no special ceremonies whatsoever.
The Tories have no respect for the heroes of Great Britain. The Tories don't understand our history and culture. The Tories must go.

The Torys (and Herr Cameron) have no more intrest in the underclasses, than another Prime Minister - Pitt the younger (see Pitt quotas act) had in the early 1800's!
The Whiggs are no more, but who were they reformed as?
Nuffin' changes.

"Additionally, in times of war, other methods of recruitment were used. In 1795, during the French Revolutionary War, the Prime Minister, William Pitt, introduced the Quota Acts (one for Navy, other for Army) to supplement recruitment to the navy. This meant that each county in Britain had to provide a quota of men for naval service. The number of men to be provided was dependant on the county population and the number of seaports it contained. As an illustration, London was expected to provide 5704 men for naval service. To induce men to sign up, counties usually offered a bounty. However, this did not usually ensure the required number and counties had to resort to other methods of recruitment. Criminals, convicted of petty offences, were offered the choice of joining up for naval service (with the added incentive of a pension at the end of their service) or the normal harsh prison sentence for the crime committed. In some cases, the presence of convicts added to the navy's problems by bringing with them diseases that were rife in the jails and causing the spread of disease amongst the crew."

Re: Tories show no respect for war heroes who stood up to Germany
Overuse of the word "hero" by the Press has to a certain extent debased the currency. Without in any way wishing to detract from the heartwarming story of a courageous lady, her First World War military service was as a mess steward at RAF bases in Marham and Narborough.
Essential and undoubtedly appreciated at the time, it's not quite the stuff of State Funerals.

It would have been a state funeral in representation of all the men and women who gave their lives for Great Britain in the First World War.oftenwrong wrote:Essential and undoubtedly appreciated at the time, it's not quite the stuff of State Funerals.
This is yet another example of how the Tories don't care about the British people and their history.

I thought we already had a monument for those that gave their all during every war, its called the Cenotaph, and almost every town and village has some kind of memorial.

Re: Tories show no respect for war heroes who stood up to Germany
Definition of an overworked adjective:
A hero (heroine is usually used for females) (Ancient Greek: ἥρως, hḗrōs), in Greek mythology and folklore, was originally a demigod, their cult being one of the most distinctive features of ancient Greek religion.[1] Later, hero (male) and heroine (female) came to refer to characters who, in the face of danger and adversity or from a position of weakness, display courage and the will for self sacrifice—that is, heroism—for some greater good of all humanity. This definition originally referred to martial courage or excellence but extended to more general moral excellence.
But in 2012 .................

They seem to forget World War 1 & 2 the men that gave there lives so that we would not be ruled by Germans, its a pity the likes of Thatcher and Scam..er..on where around then we could of used them as cannon fodder because that is all they are good for, the way they are treating our armed forces now is shameful.

This is where I MUST step in blue, the way this gov't is treating our armed forces is shameful, and just you remember who would do the fighting IF we where invaded by a nutcase of a gov't as Im sure you know they are plenty out there that would invade if they thought they had a chance of conquering the UK. So a little less of the sarcasm when talking about the great armed forces.

Damn. Just as it was getting interesting.
But what self-respecting fire would consume her? And would Satan let her in anyway? Surely even Hell has some standards...

If the woman was let in to Hell at all , she would be a prime candidate for being in charge of the Performance Management of all the apprentice devils. After all, who could be a more impressive role model for tomorrow's Satanic helpers...?
