Ken or Boris?

Post by Ivan on Sun Jan 22, 2012 1:57 pm

First topic message reminder :

May 3 is the date set for the London Mayoral election. The three main candidates are Boris Johnson (Tory), who has been Mayor of London since 2008, Ken Livingstone (Labour), who was Mayor from 2000 until 2008, and Brian Paddick (Lib Dem). As Paddick is currently polling around 7%, I think we can discount him.

From 1986 to 2000, London had been the only major city in the Western world without its own elected authority. That was because when Labour regained control of the Greater London Council (GLC) in 1981, Thatcher, an enemy of democracy, decided to abolish it. She also abolished six metropolitan councils which just happened to be Labour-controlled. It's hardly surprising that she was a personal friend of General Pinochet, a man not noted for his democratic credentials.

Ken Livingstone was born in Streatham in London in 1945 and went to Tulse Hill Comprehensive School. He worked as a cancer research laboratory technician at the Royal Marsden Hospital. In 1971, he became a councillor in Lambeth, and he was the leader of the GLC from 1981 until its abolition in 1986. He was the MP for Brent East from 1987 until 2001.

Alexander Boris de Pfeffel Johnson, a descendant of an illegitimate child of George II, was born in 1964 and went to Eton and Oxford, where, as a member of the Bullingdon Club (in the company of Cameron and Osborne) he spent a night in a police cell after trashing a restaurant. He became a journalist and was the Tory MP for Henley from 2001 to 2008. Once elected Mayor of London (on a salary of around £150,000 a year), he resumed work as a ‘Daily Telegraph’ columnist on a further £250,000 a year.

Johnson, who has campaigned vigorously against the 50% top rate of tax and has frequently defended bankers, is a serial adulterer, compulsive liar, racist, and even a thief, once being made to return an article which he looted from the home of Tariq Aziz in Baghdad. He has a reputation for running up exorbitant expenses, and in short, he’s thoroughly unsuitable for holding any office.

Went to an event laid on by Boris and tfl to those that were involved in the Olympics. The man came out and gave a great speech, worth turning up just to hear him, oh and the drink was free as well.

The drink was not free the tax payer pays for it tittf, just like we will pick up the bill for his jaunt to India. It will be the tax payer again that picks up the tab at Northern Rock of £270 Million another Bill from the B(W)ankers.

Only those of us that live in London will pay Red.

What has northern rock got to do with Boris. That was down to the red tints in power at the time, perhaps you need to ask Ken and his cronies about how much he spent in Taxis alone before you quote monies spent?

Taxi, a word like champagne in its ability to convey a meaning universally understood to rhyme with decadence.

But if you live in London, driving your own car is equivalent to self-harming. Travel on the tube means having your nose pressed against a stranger's armpit, and the buses only travel in threes - at twenty minute intervals.

Time, as some like to say, is money, so for businessmen a Taxi can actually represent a small saving.

What bloody hypocrisy! Johnson is renowned for running up ridiculous taxi bills, even telling taxi drivers to wait while he's in meetings.

I'd love to see the link to that one Ivan, Ken is documented as keeping taxis waiting from Manchester to London, but hey it's Ken surely there must be a good reason?

That is because it was not the Labour party that was claiming expenses for Duck Houses or Moat Cleaning.

Boris Johnson dents cycling image with £4,698 taxi bill

"Boris Johnson's image as a bicycling, penny-pinching Mayor took a blow today as it emerged that he had spent more than £4,500 of public money on taxis - with one bill alone topping £237.

New figures released to the London Assembly show that Mr Johnson racked up bills that dwarfed those of Ken Livingstone and critics are now demanding detailed explanations for each journey."

His deputy has been hauled up for inapppropriate behaviour (groping a junior member of staff) so its not just Doris that is trying it on because they are in power.

Lies, lies and more lies.

Johnson gets paid £250k (what he calls "chicken feed") for writing dishonest tripe in 'The Daily Telegraph'. In the meantime, his job of Mayor of London (but not his salary) is farmed out to all and sundry, at further expense to the taxpayers of London:-

Does he not believe in using his own bike, or is that beneath him now that the folk of London have voted him back into power.

Ivan the reason is the people of London voted for him is that he LIED through his back teeth with a bit of SPIN from his team, plus they did their best to smear the character of Ken with the tax innuendo, I would love to take a look at the tax dodges Doris is up to.
