World Cup Willies
As the 2014 tournament in Brazil looms, who do we think might win the right to call themselves 'World Champions'?
Could it be one of Argentina, Brazil, Belgium, France, Germany, Holland, Spain, or maybe an African nation or other 'outsider'? It surely won't be England!
And shall we have a 'clean' contest, or has the infamous Sepp Blatter already decided to give a late 'wild card' to Qatar for a surprise triumph?
How will the whole business be refereed ? I have major fears for the honesty of officials , many of whom seem to be available to the highest bidder, thereby making it tricky to judge whether it is the players or officials who are the most dishonest.
But,for now, there is all to play for - so let's get on with the show...

Re: World Cup Willies
I always think the proliferation of St George's flags provides a marvellous opportunity for xenophobes to do their thing - as a result, i rarely take any interest in the event - I wish the England team would choose a different symbol - St George has been occupied by the xenophobes and outright racists, in my (rather jaundiced) view

Re: World Cup Willies
The symbol of the England team is surely the Three Lions on their badge, boatlady?
But any symbol can be hijacked by malicious idiots, so any change might be fruitless anyway.
So forget those morons and watch the footy - where a completely different set of morons hold sway...

I was expecting to see either the infamous Peter Beardsley photo or the Paul Scholes one when I saw the title of the thread

Re: World Cup Willies
But moving swiftly on .... two weeks from now Silverstone stages the British Grand Prix, which Hamilton will be trying quite hard to win. But there is in any case a good chance of hearing God Save the Queen at the awards ceremony, as eight out of the eleven competing teams have their F1 facilities in Britain.*

Next Sunday's Football World Cup finalists Argentina and Germany after a couple of hours boredom followed by ten minutes brown-trouser time for Netherlands supporters.

Re: World Cup Willies
I wonder if Sam Allardyce will still be the England manager by the time of the 2018 World Cup? Or by tomorrow? If he's sacked now, he will be the most successful England manager ever, with a 100% record.......
