South Dakota vacation photos
We recently took a short trip to the Black Hills of South Dakota. We visited several places, such as the Cosmos Mystery Area, The Badlands, Mt. Rushmore, Reptile Gardens, and Sylvan Lake (via Needles Highway). We also stopped at a few random places along the way here and there, such as a pretty little lake called Horsethief Lake. Unfortunately, it clouded up as we were headed to Lake Sylvan yesterday afternoon, and started sprinkling about the time we got there. But, we aren't the types to let that stop us! We went on our walk anyway, and even kept going until such a point it was a pretty steady rain. By the time we got back to the car, we were wet enough to be able to wring water from our shirts, lol. Luckily, we each had an extra change of clothes, which we'd brought in case we decided to stay an extra night somewhere. It rained about 3/4 of our drive home (total of around 5 hrs from that point). Still had fun though!
I uploaded quite a few pictures to Photobucket. If you click on the first photo in each album, then navigate from within there, you'll be able to see the photo titles and any captions I added.

Thanks, boatlady. It WAS fun. We didn't do nearly all of what we'd have liked, so I suppose we'll have to go back again someday.

Isn't that always the way - you start out, and the week or two in front of you seems almost infinite, but before you know it, it's time to head on home.
Looks well worth another visit

A week or two? I wouldn't know what to do with that kind of time. I don't get paid vacation, so I only go away for the length of my weekend - either 3 or 4 days a week.
12 hr shifts have some benefits.

Ouch! Forgot things are different your side of the pond.
You certainly crammed a lot in to a short time

Well, they're probably not so different as you might think. Most people DO get paid vacations, and only work 8 hrs a day. My situation is different because I am a contractor for an IT company. My contract company doesn't offer vacation (unless I want to give up several dollars an hour off my pay). And the 12 hr shifts are just the way they do it where I work. I've gotten used to it by now and enjoy the free time, as well as having some week days off to schedule appointments or volunteer at my son's school.

There's definitely an 'up' side to long working days, when you can take a four-day weekend.
Not having paid holidays, though - I wouldn't have liked that
