Paralympics 2012
Is finally here!
Watching it with mixed emotions because as a Disabled person its great it 15mins up the road but tainted by the current increase in oppression of disabled people in Britain in the last few years.
Cant wait for the Murder ball competition! Plus got tickets for saturday nights athletics!

How’s your “forty-five flat” Olympic finalist doing?

If you mean Oscar Pistorius carrying the flag for South Africa in opening ceremony. Not a bad start for the games.RockOnBrother wrote:KnarkyBadger wrote:Is finally here!

A good opening ceremony with a great bit of Ian Dury and the Blockheads near the end with the classic Spasticus Autisticus!

Originally banned by the BBC apparently, for its "insensitive" lyrics.

Re: Paralympics 2012
Good to see that various people seized the occasion to demonstrate outide the offices of ATOS who are busily telling the disabled to pull themselves together and get a job, whilst charging the Government far more money than they can expect to save on disability benefit as a result.

Be fair - it wouldn't be yer proper Tory goverrnment if they weren't picking on a few people who are unable to totally fend for themselves. After all, what else can they reasonably do to satisfy the usual blood-lust of their mouth-foaming followers...?

Re: Paralympics 2012
No disrespect, but who else has noticed the huge disparity between the quality of the Channel 4 coverage of the Paralympics and that of the BBC's for the Olympics.
It is not only the moronic and all-too-regular 'commercial breaks' of C4 which put it in a distant second place , but even those presenters which have been borrowed from the Beeb, just don't shine as brightly on their rival channel.
If the Tories had their way, we would all be assailed by advertisements 24 hours a day on our TVs and the BBC would be consigned to a memory, despite the fact that nobody can begin to compete with it when it comes to the televising of sporting events or any other major occasion ( and, not least, politics).

Completely agree! Adverts are annoying as they were when 4 had test cricket! But oh well just getting ready for T44 200m final with Oscar Pistorius!

Re: Paralympics 2012
Even detesting them as I do, I feel that it is an exhibition of bad manners to do this in such circumstances. It makes those indulging in the practice as bad as those whom they are jeering. - and that is pretty bad.
A few custard pies at an election meeting would be a different matter, as would some booing at any attempt at making a political speech in a public place.
I promise this unaccustomed defence of any leading Tory will not become a habit...

I disagree a large section of public it seems have had enough of the con-dem and general neo-liberal hypocrisy over the Paralympics. They cant in one breath accuse us of being frauds, fakes and liars (leading to a massive increase in hate crime) and in the next say that disabled people are super-human.

Re: Paralympics 2012
Story in todays Independent on Sunday http://www.independent.co.uk/news/uk/home-news/backlash-of-the-paralympians-athletes-claim-double-standards-in-sport-honours-8433332.html about double standards in "honours" awarded to sports people. Its interesting but Pearson (as ever) comes across whiney and precious. My own view as a disabled person is, Surely the only "honourable" thing a Paralympian could, would or should do with one these "honours" is to refuse it pubicly and vocally in protest of this evil governments treatment of disabled people. Just a thought.
