Government to introduce new £170 death tax

Death is going to get more expensive - by about £170. Whether you are burnt or buried when you go, the government is planning to grab an extra £170 from your estate via a new death tax. It claims the tax is needed because they want to improve the accuracy of death statistics.

Crucially, it would mean the family of the deceased having to stump up £170 for all non-coroner related deaths before the person is allowed to be buried.

That would seem to mean anybody who dies in Hospital.

How difficult would the authorities find it to access hospital records?

Instead of a death tax, there should be a birth tax, it might slow down the birth rate in this country, and people would find it cheaper to use condoms.

If you look at this from a macabre point of view - which I am quite sure the politicians have done - it is the ideal tax because the people being taxed are in no position to complain about it and the kin are already so fraught with emotion that they will not be in a position to fight it efficiently. Having said that, I agree that it is quite an underhanded thing to do. But then, when has a politician of any stripe ever been accused of having morals?

You don't have to pay a death tax if you leave your body to science, you also don't have to pay for a funeral. Perhaps now we should consider tearing up all the graveyards, burn the remains of everything interned there and use the sites for parks and social housing.

There must be some Vicars of town-centre churches surrounded by Victorian headstones, who occasionally ponder on the potential income from a Car-park instead.

Quite odd that they forgot how many millions they get a year on unclaimed inheritance assets in the first place. Where does it all go? One would be bewildered in asking.

Get this ! About £78 billion of unclaimed assets are in the financial system,enough to cover quite a bit,I would assume. In England an Wales alone there are 12,000 plus 'unclaimed' estates. There are 710 thousand abandoned or empty homes in the England alone.

Astonishing! Taking poor old Joe Public for a ride again to a place of no-where.

The public should be the inheritors of all unclaimed assets, in all its forms.

Pensioners unclaimed benefits .
