Trump's alternative universe
First topic message reminder :
After 2 weeks in power it feels like it's time to start a thread on the alternative universe which Trump and his Trumpsters seem to be living in.....
Each day he reveals a new facet (alternative truth) of the place he lives in.
Today's alternative realities are that all bad poll ratings are FAKE and only good ratings are real......
The Press have under reported terror attacks such as Paris, Florida and 70+ others in spite of wall to wall coverage in the media and press.......

Changed? What do you mean, changed?
Remember that amusing little critter the American's elected? How we laughed at his antics!
Such a shame they have to grow up.

Either he'll grow up or he will continue to want to try out all the toys he's just found to be in the military's toy-cupboard.

Donald Trump has 'dangerous mental illness', say psychiatry experts at Yale conference
Donald Trump is not fit to lead the US. Mental health experts claimed he is “paranoid and delusional”, and said it was their “ethical responsibility” to warn the American public about the “dangers” Mr Trump’s psychological state poses to the country.
“Worse than just being a liar or a narcissist, in addition he is paranoid, delusional and grandiose thinking and he proved that to the country the first day he was president. If Donald Trump really believes he had the largest crowd size in history, that’s delusional.”

Re: Trump's alternative universe
I really don't buy this about Trump being mentally ill - I think it's true that he has a personality disorder - psychopathic and/or narcissistic/paranoid - and like most people with personality disorders he is manipulative and seeks to increase chaos around him as a means of meeting his objectives.
I've observed him lying, exaggerating, avoiding core questions and gaslighting to weaken his opponents' positions; boasting and winging it when he obviously doesn't know what he's talking about - these are all rather organised mental activities aimed at environment control.
What I've never seen is Trump responding to voices, espousing positions that are completely outside the 'norm', losing control of himself in a public setting. Someone with a mental illness who has been exposed to scrutiny in the way he has would by now have 'lost it' in some very obvious way, if only for a moment.
Sadly, I suspect the USA psychiatrists are grasping at straws - what has happened in America is only what at some point was likely to happen - a psychopathic culture has finally chosen to be led by a psychopath.
If we're not very lucky, I believe England will soon go the same way

How much longer before the swamp is really drained by impeaching Trump and booting him out of office?
White House forced to deny report Trump urged FBI to drop Michael Flynn investigation
Donald Trump directly asked former FBI director James Comey to drop an investigation into his former national security adviser, Michael Flynn, according to notes kept at the time by Comey and first reported on Tuesday by 'The New York Times'.
The latest crisis to beset the White House came just 24 hours after the first reports emerged of Trump having shared classified intelligence with Russia during Oval Office talks.

It's a long time since we heard a DJ play "It's good news week", but it was ironic anyway so may be appropriate again today.
The Donald seems impatient to launch WW3. Whatever was the US voter thinking about when they gave a box of matches to an infant to play with?

Re: Trump's alternative universe
Actually, we ordinary people can identify with Trump in some ways.
You start off with such bold ideas, determined to make a difference but slowly and surely - bit by bit - things don't quite turn out as you would have hoped. Friends don't necessarily see things in the same way, the Law doesn't bend to your will. Great ideas run into the sand, and the only way forward is to lower your sights. Accept what is given, recognise that Rome wasn't built in a day, go with the flow, don't expect too much.
Pretty much like everyone else in fact. (Sigh!)

Surely, though, the whole point of the presidency (or any head of state) is that they are supposed to aspire to higher standards of behaviour than 'the little guy' (a bit like anyone in a professional role, who acts according to a set of rules and conventions)

But as a rule, a Head of State needs for the people to elect them, so it's not usually enough just to want the job. Except in this case. Unbelievable, as my TV model used to say.

Re: Trump's alternative universe
Donald Trump’s unfitness for office
From an ‘Observer’ editorial:-
Like some kind of Shakespearean villain-clown, Trump plays not to the gallery but to the pit. He is a Falstaff without the humour or the self-awareness, a cowardly, bullying Richard III without a clue. Late-night US satirists find in this an unending source of high comedy. If they did not laugh, they would cry. The world is witnessing the dramatic unfolding of a tragedy whose main victims are a seemingly helpless American audience, America’s system of balanced governance and its global reputation as a leading democratic light.
Trump has squandered the political goodwill that traditionally accompanies a presidential honeymoon, shocked and outraged many middle-of-the-road voters who initially gave him the benefit of the doubt, thoroughly alienated Republican Party traditionalists, and undermined the authority of the office of the president. Trump, a supposedly ace chief executive, has now lost a chief of staff, a deputy chief of staff, a national security adviser, a communications director and a press secretary in short order. To lose one or even two of his most senior people might be excused as unfortunate. To lose all five suggests the fault is his.
The next prospective car crash is a September deadline for a federal budget and linked tax reforms and increased military spending promised by Trump. A budget deal proved impossible last spring and may do so again. If there is no agreement, a government shut-down looms, an outcome in line with current Washington trends. Lazy, feckless Trump has no interest in the onerous business of lobbying Congress or working the phones. He wants quick, easy wins or else he walks away.
Naive, misguided Theresa May and Liam Fox still seem to think Trump’s word can be trusted and that he will deliver a favourable trade deal. It is one of many delusions explaining why Britain’s government is so disrespected. In sharp contrast, Angela Merkel heads the realist, pragmatic group of leaders who are learning to deal with a post-Obama world where the word of the American president cannot be trusted.

Re: Trump's alternative universe
Does US law permit a President to simply resign? Now almost seven months in office, The Donald must by now have realized it's not precisely the same as dominating the boardroom of a Company you happen to own.
His temperament means he always has to win - and he's had a number of setbacks recently.
How long before he finds an excuse to remove himself from a no-win position? Or that someone equally "important" finds Trump's true tax figures lying about somewhere - and discloses them. In the Public Interest of course.

Re: Trump's alternative universe
Yes, American presidents can resign. Richard Nixon did in 1974, rather than face impeachment and the near certainty that he would be kicked out.
There are press stories circulating which suggest that Trump is trying to find out if he can pardon himself and his family - and that's before he and they are charged with any offences! Maybe that's his cunning plan, get immunity from prosecution and then retire to Mar-a-Lago.

Where would we be without mathematics? Many economists recognize "Pootn", (as the US President likes to call him), as truly the richest man in the world.

Re: Trump's alternative universe
President Trump is deteriorating before our very eyes
From an article by Greg Sargent:-
Were you deeply alarmed by President Trump’s performance in Arizona on Tuesday night? If so, that is understandable. Trump is getting worse. He rambled and ranted with abandon. He hinted that he will pardon Joe Arpaio. He escalated his attacks on the media, accusing them of misrepresenting his response to the violence in Charlottesville. Yet he also doubled down on his defence of Confederate monuments, claiming that “they” are trying to “take away our heritage and our history”.
All of this appeared to signal a growing contempt for the rule of law and an increasing indifference to the health of our democracy and institutions, and to his own responsibilities and duty to the public to try to calm the antagonisms unleashed in Charlottesville’s aftermath. If anything, at this difficult moment of national introspection, Trump conspicuously sought to further inflame those antagonisms. Some reacted with deep panic: former director of national intelligence James Clapper labelled the speech “downright scary and disturbing”, adding: “I really question his ability to be — his fitness to be — in this office”.

I can't speak for everyone, but for me, yes. Every day there's some new thing he's said or done that just proves even more that he is not fit for office. Makes me sick!

His followers, as far as I can tell, still think he walks on water. It doesn't matter that he's destroying the country.
America's alternative universe
"Only in America!"
Well no, actually.
For anyone thinking the days of the so-called casting couch were long gone, this past week has been eye-opening. The growing list of women directing allegations at Harvey Weinstein suggests they never left Hollywood.
http://www.msn.com/en-gb/news/world/hollywoods-long-ugly-history-with-sexual-harassment/ar-AAtihRU?li=BBoPU0R&ocid=iehp
The exact same situation has always existed in "Bollywood", as the film industry in India is described. Wealthy Indian businessmen have "invested" in film as a means of becoming associated with the actors.
So what else is new?
Well no, actually.
