Judith Durham - Karen Carpenter - Celine Dion - Dusty Springfield - Shirley Bassey - Jennifer Rush - Whitney Houston - Petula Clark - Kiri te Kanawa
Who else should be a contender ?
(popular) Voice wise - Eva Cassidy
(jazz) Style wise - Diana Krall
(stage) Over-all - Heather Headley (Aida, etc.)

My musical tastes varies quite a lot due to my age and ethnicity. I have grown up listening to the likes of Shakira, Delta Goodrem, Britney Spears and Christina Aguilera.

I didn't really think that this warranted a new thread but I thought some people might be interested in these pics of Columbia artists:

At the moment, I'm really enjoying electro-swing music. My favourite of these bands is Tape Five and my favourite of their albums is Tonight Josephine. Here are three tracks from them. See what you think...

That reminds me of Boardwalk Empire, which is no bad thing.

Re: Favourite music
Arcade Fire's new album entitled Reflektor is an almost complete departure from anything they've recorded before.
Do we really welcome innovation from favourite artistes, or are we more likely to buy more-of-the-same?

Interesting that you have to wait 2 minutes in between posts on this forum.

Re: Favourite music
The two-minute delay appears to apply principally to "edit" posts. Presumably the machinery gets confused if it is asked to carry more than one version of an entry at a time, and has to clear the first one from memory before displaying another.... though I'm often wrong.

Certainly a good one for doing the hoovering or other boring household jobs - I like a bit of rowdy music for that.

Re: Favourite music
Shostakovich , Mahler and Rachmaninov should be enjoyed .
Delius and Elgar if you have a romantic spot .
But I have the softest spot for Bebel Gilberto and even Dionne Warwick plus records where God pointed his finger just the once -- at people like Archie Drell and the Bells and John Paul Young . And , perhaps , when God called Marvin Gaye to ask " What's going on ? "
