When do you think there will be a leadership challenge in the Lib Dems?
First topic message reminder :
The Lib-Dems will not let Nick Clegg lead them into the next general election because Clegg will definitely be a liability.
The Lib-Dems won't have their leadership challenge too near the general election because this will be seen as a vote grabber.
The Lib-Dems must have their leadership challenge ages before the next general election to be seen as a genuine change of leadership.
So, when do you think their leadership challenge will be ?

One of my Dad's favourites was to respond to an obsequious guest of my mother's who might say: " So pleased to meet you, Mr Hornby" , by saying : "Why?".
On a really bad day , it would be : " I wish I could say the same..."

My father was not a very tactful man, in fact he could be openly rude to someone he disliked and yet had not done him any injustice.
My piano teacher would visit to give me "the boy" a lesson. She lived over a wet fish shop and stank of fish ( ) and when it was time for her to leave, she would courteously say "goodby i'm going now" to my father. He replied "good". Rude man wasn't even a Tory would you believe?

Behind every successful man there is a woman, Mrs Jack told me to say that. I said but i have always been a failure, sometimes she says, there are exceptional cases. I have never been able to refuse Mrs Jack anything, that is why i have always admired Napolean Boneparte, when he said, not to night Josaphine.
What this as to do with the Lib/Dems future though beats me, unless there are no women behind the leaders of the Lib/Dems.

Now can we leave all gill-bearing aquatic craniate animals that lack limbs with digits and get back to the Liberal Democrats, please?

The best laugh is going to be if he has the balls to put up an L/D MP for the upcoming By-Election in Corby, maybe when they loose there deposit again the penny will finally drop that this is just the beginning of the end for the L/Ds.

Surely after the debacle with the Uni students not to increase there fees and signing and putting there photos to it no one in there right mind would vote for them, plus siding with the Tories on all the cuts and job losses plus the standard of living hike.

Hi Mel
A poll of 1,500 Corby voters by Lord Ashcroft for ConservativeHome gives Labour a 15-point lead over the Conservatives, with Miliband's party on 52% and Cameron's on 37%. The Lib Dems are on just 7% and could yet be caught by UKIP. The Tories currently have a majority of 1,951 (3.6%) after winning the seat, which Labour held from 1997 until 2010, at the last election.
I guess the question is... who are the stupid people who make up the 7% of voters who said they would vote LIB Dem?

Re: What future will the Lib Dems have by 2015?
Corby is there for Labour to lose if they don't do their homework. The first group of them who went to see the place when Louise Mensch announced her resignation, appeared unaware that the Constituency is an amalgamation of two disparate areas - one nice and the other not so nice - which both have to be carried in order to win the seat.
Appeals to occupants of the leafy green part will have greater success if Labour canvassers can remember to get the place-names right. For the 2010 general election, the electoral wards used to create the modified constituency were;
The borough of Corby, plus the East Northamptonshire wards of Barnwell, Dryden, Fineshade, Irthlingborough, King’s Forest, Lower Nene, Lyveden, Oundle, Prebendal, Raunds Saxon, Raunds Windmill, Ringstead, Stanwick, Thrapston and Woodford.

As far as I'm aware OW, Ed Miliband has already been to Corby just lets hope he visited both areas you talk about so that he gets the full picture of Corby, but with the Tory cuts and LIES do you really think that the people of Corby would put another Tory or L/D into the seat ?

The national Labour party staff will run this bye election and will of been in the Corby seat for a few weeks now. but with some much riding on it mistakes will not happen in my view. In all truth I cannot really see the Labour party losing this seat. but shocks do happen but often.

The question is readily answered, "Not much of one!" Even if the Coalition staggers on until 2015 it's likely that Clegg will have been replaced by his current Party President, Tim Farron. (Not to be confused with Tory deputy party chairman Michael Fallon. Try and keep up.)
The Lib-Dem Party may be strengthened by the sheer number of Lady politician wallflowers. Cameron risks breaking his 2009 pledge to have his government comprise at least a third females. That means he still needs to appoint a further 22 to join the 16 (14%) there so far.

All things being even the lib/dems will be dead by the election and a serious coalition of cons/ukip will be in charge, now there's a pleasant thought, the tories having to pull out of Europe.

That would mean we would have Tory and second hand Tories in power, what have you been eating or smoking tittf something that is not legal I'm sure if you think the UK public will vote in another Tory gov't after what they have done to the normal man/women taking off them to give a 5p tax cut to those earning £150,000 per year and above, giving tax breaks to the Millionaires is not the ideal scheme to get peoples votes.

Re: What future will the Lib Dems have by 2015?
UKIP has almost lost any reason to exist. The chances of Britain joining the Eurozone now are as likely as me becoming Prime Minister, and the pros-and-cons of EU membership flow in and out of the newspapers like a Spring tide.
All sorts of Tories from the lunatic fringe are hopping out of the woodwork now to demand reinstatement of Heathrow's third runway/high-speed trains/building on Greenbelt etc. while there may still be time to get such things through Parliament before the General Election.
My own feeling is that the Coalition is unlikely to get through next Winter.

Re: What future will the Lib Dems have by 2015?
I see the scroat Clegg is now waving his sabre at the wealthiest,
He wants the richest in the country to foot the larger burden in reducing the Deficit, and I must say I wholly agree with him. Its just that its taken the creep almost two and a half years to push it.
Its strange isn’t it, its now around half way through this Parliament and he decides to rock the boat he has heavily assisted in rocking. Perhaps I’m being a bit cynical but I recon he has finally realised he will be the Man responsible for the demise of his Party or has worked out in his pea like brain that he has two years to oppose the damaging policies he has assisted through Parliament, in the hope that we are as stupid as Ivanhoe thinks and forgive him.
I personally wont mind paying a proportional increase in my taxes, but not so long as this excuse for a Government hold the purse strings, and I know several other who feel the same.

bobby, Clegg doesnt want to tax the "income" of the rich. He wants to increase taxation on the rich, by the back door, by stealth.
I personally do not agree with anything other than raising direct taxation on the rich, income tax should be increased on the rich, and the middle classes, but council tax should be abolished.
For too long the British in general have paid a low rate of income tax, particularly compared to EU workers.
this is why local council tax has increased, because income tax has not increased.

Clegg's current proposal to tax the Possessions of the wealthy is already reality in some European countries which in addition to Income Tax also levy a small percentage on things like Second Homes/Yachts/shareholdings or valuable collections.
If introduced into UK Law, it would almost certainly be the thin end of the wedge and ultimately all of us would be taxed on the things we own.

I agree with EU law on taxation. The British largely in my view dont like paying income tax in general, hence continuing to vote for right wing low income tax Government's for over 30 years.

Ivanhoe. Could you please read a post correctly before making a comment on it. Could you show me where I said Clegg made any comment regarding Tax. The only mention of Tax was my own and what I would be prepared to do, with a change in Government.

It appears to undermine the notion of a 'Coalition Government' when the second most senior person in the administration leads forth in public on a topic for which his boss in all probability has no enthusiasm , and may not even have been consulted about before his junior colleague opens his large and unreliable mouth.
It just goes to show what a charade all this pretence of a coherent and co-ordinated approach to government actually is. What we are really looking at is the grubbiest example of politics in action we have seem for many a decade. If it wasn't quite so grotesquely nauseating it would almost be comical.....but nobody's laughing...
